Determine Configuration Type

During the installation of J!WHMCS Integrator (for Joomla 1.5), you will be presented with a choice of installation methods:

  • Automatic Installation - this method handles the installation of the J!WHMCS Integrator component along with the authentication, system, system language and user level plugins as well as the installation of the files necessary on the WHMCS side.
  • Manual Installation - this method will install only the J!WHMCS Integrator component into Joomla.  The rest of the configuration and installation is up to you.

It should be noted that with both of the installation methods available, the J!WHMCS Integrator Login Module and the J!WHMCS Integrator Pricing Plugin are separate installs, as they are optional.

For Joomla 2.5 (including Joomla 1.6 and 1.7) the installer will automatically take you to the Automatic Installation procedure.

Since there are many possible manners of installing Joomla and WHMCS, we have provided this simple guide to help you decide which manner of installation you should follow.

Configuration Type A

linkInternet URL folderPhysical Path
 Joomla: http://www.yourdomain.com  Joomla: /home/username/public_html/

WHMCS: http://www.yourdomain.com/whmcs WHMCS: /home/username/public_html/whmcs/

Your WHMCS is installed as a subdirectory on your server with a similar configuration shown.

 Use:

Automatic Installation
Most will encounter no issues.

 Found: Very Common
Most installations are configured this way

Configuration Type B

linkInternet URL folderPhysical Path
 Joomla: http://www.yourdomain.com  Joomla: /home/username/public_html/

WHMCS: http://whmcs.yourdomain.com WHMCS: /home/username/public_html/whmcs/

Your WHMCS is configured as a subdomain of your root domain, but the installation is accessible as a subdirectory within the public_html folder of your root directory. If you were to view your files with ftp, you would see something like /home/user/public_html/whmcs even though you would access it through a subdomain.

 Use:

Automatic Installation
Most will encounter no issues.

 Found: Common
Many installations are configured this way

Configuration Type C

linkInternet URL folderPhysical Path
 Joomla: http://www.yourdomain.com  Joomla: /home/username/public_html/

WHMCS: http://whmcs.yourdomain.com WHMCS: /home/username/subdomains/whmcs/

Your WHMCS is configured as a subdomain of your root domain, and the filespace is setup so that it is not in the same filespace as Joomla. This presents an issue with writing to it from the Joomla location. The WHMCS installation is accessible as a subdirectory but is not within the public_html folder of your root directory. If you were to view your files with ftp, you would see your WHMCS located at someplace like /home/user/subdomain/whmcs and Joomla located at /home/user/public_html/.

 Use:

Manual Installation
Most will encounter no major issues.

 Found: Possible
Not many sites are configured in this way.

Configuration Type D - SPLIT SERVER

linkInternet URL folderPhysical Path
 Joomla: http://www.yourdomain.com  Joomla: /home/username/public_html/

WHMCS: http://www.yourwhmcs.com WHMCS: /home/whmcsusername/public_html/

Your WHMCS is configured on it's own domain, though it may be on the same physical server as Joomla. This means you aren't able to access the files from Joomla from WHMCS, and vice versa, however the Joomla database is accessible from WHMCS.

 Use:

Manual Installation
Most will encounter minor styling issues.

 Found: Not Very Common
Very few have separate physical and name space configurations.

Configuration Type E - SPLIT SERVER

linkInternet URL folderPhysical Path
 Joomla: http://www.yourdomain.com  Joomla: /home/username/public_html/

WHMCS: http://www.yourwhmcs.com WHMCS: /home/whmcsusername/public_html/

Your WHMCS is located on a completely separate server. This will require you to open access to your MySQL database using the remote MySQL feature.

 Use:

Manual Installation
Most DO encounter issues.

 Found: Not Found Often
This configuration is highly unusual but when encountered require a significant bit of customization for functionality
